Estate Law
In many instances, managing the estate is relatively easy. Rental and other agreements are terminated, assets are sold, debts are paid and the remainder is distributed in accordance with the decedent’s will or by law. If the beneficiaries of the estate, who are usually the heirs and surviving spouse, don’t agree on matters or are unable to manage the estate, a beneficiary can apply to the court to appoint an administrator. The administrator will then be the authorized representative of the estate and be responsible for selling assets, paying debts and distributing the remainder in accordance with the will or by law.
