Swedish citizenship conveys certain benefiets such as the right to reside and work in Sweden. It also entitles the person to voting rights and greater opportunities to live and work in other EU countries. Persons that do not acquire Swedish citizenship at birth or through adoption, can apply for citizenship if they are over the age of 18 years and can establish their identity. The person generally must also possess a permanent residence permit to live in Sweden and have resided in Sweden for at least five years.
